What To Do When You Feel Creatively Stuck
(...that isn’t just "go for a walk" or "drink water")
We’ve all been there.
You’ve got ideas (soooooo many, probably).
You want to create, move forward, figure things out…
But instead, you're staring at your screen, scrolling through your socials, or reorganising your knicker drawer like that’s suddenly your full-time job.
Feeling stuck is part of being human - especially if you’re creative, multi-passionate, or just existing in a world that loves to demand constant productivity.
But here’s the thing - getting unstuck doesn’t have to mean forcing yourself into action or pretending everything’s fine.
Sometimes, it’s about giving yourself a way back to clarity without the pressure.
So, if you’re currently in that "ugh, where do I even start?" place - here are a few gentle ideas that actually help:
1. Name It (Without Judging It)
Instead of spiralling into "Why am I like this?", try:
"Oh hey, I’m feeling stuck right now."
It sounds simple, but calling it what it is - without attaching guilt - takes the edge off. You’re not broken. You’re just… here.
2. Shrink the Next Step
Your system might be overwhelmed because you're asking it to figure out everything at once.
What’s the smallest possible next step?
Not “write the book” - more like “open the document.”
Not “sort your life out” - just “reply to that one email.”
Tiny steps count. They build momentum quietly.
3. Stop Trying To "Fix" It Immediately
Sometimes you’re stuck because you need a pause, not a push.
Give yourself permission to step away without making it mean anything dramatic. Rest is productive too (even if capitalism disagrees).
4. Get Support (Because You Don’t Have To DIY Everything)
Sure, there are times when a playlist of bops and a cup of tea will do the trick.
But if you’ve been circling the same stuck feeling for a while - it’s okay to ask for help.
That’s literally why I do what I do.
🌿 Oh, and I made a thing for this…
